Can You Drink Martini’s on a Healthy Diet?

Green Olives 300x273 Can You Drink Martinis on a Healthy Diet? What constituents a healthy diet?  Does it mean giving up everything you ever loved?  What is a healthy diet?  Does anyone really care anymore?  Look at obesity rates surging in the US and becoming an issue in foreign countries where they are adopting the “Western Diet”.  Go to a restaurant and you will see so many fat people.  Diabetes has now become an epidemic!  Yikes.

Well, I want to be healthy, look good (ok yeah, that is really important to me, I like when my husband still checks me out at 44) and I still want to enjoy food.  And drink, of course!

My aunt has always maintained an “in moderation” philosophy about eating.  She is in her mid 70′s and still has a great figure.  She and my mom work out at the gym 3 days a week.  And they didn’t start going to the gym until AFTER they retired.  And you can see a difference…. so it is NEVER to LATE to start moving.  Moving keeps you young and yes, in shape to attract mates. icon smile Can You Drink Martinis on a Healthy Diet?

I have friends who are, frankly, food fanatics!  And on BOTH sides of the spectrum!  One friends swears by eating only alkaline food.  Well, that cuts out coffee and alcohol.  Hmmm.  That isn’t going to work for me!  But I will drink wheatgrass, the most alkaline food on the planet to help offset the acidity in my coffee and red wine.

I have other friends that are frankly, overweight and eat whatever they like and don’t think about how food helps or harms them.  There attitude is they are going to eat what they want…. end of story.  Oh, and don’t try to convert them to eating any differently.  Their grandmother lived until she was in their 80′s eating the way they do, do it is of no concern to them.  (What they don’t realize is that grandma really did eat differently and got a great deal more exercise in her daily life…. no sitting in front of a computer for 8 hours on her ass!  Nope, she was probably mowing the lawn with a push mower in her high heels like my sexy grandma!

After all the information I have read, studied and researched, I have come to the conclusion that my Auntie is right.  A healthy diet is one of moderation.  Do we need to adjust a few other things in our eating habits today?  You bet!  Our farmland isn’t as rich in nutrients anymore and corporate America has taken over food production where their focus is not on producing healthy food for us but meeting quotas for their investors.

But eating a healthy diet can be fun, social and doesn’t have to be expensive.  So go chill your martini glass – it will make your martini smoother and more refreshing and let’s whip up a batch!  Invite some friends over to partake in some martinis with olives that are chock full of essential fatty acids to help your liver metabolize the gin or vodka!

Here is a quick recipe!

1 1/2 ounces Vodka or Gin (My mom likes only gin martini’s)

1/2 teaspoon Vermouth

3 fat and juicy Green Olives

Fill your shaker with crushed ice. Add the vodka.  Shake vigorously.  Take your chilled martini glasses out of the freezer and swirl the vermouth around the glass.  Pour the extra in the sink.  Now pour in the chilled vodka and add the olives.  Enjoy!
